TCA§39-17-1309c

Public Post-secondary institutions (ex: UT) cannot punish employees or students for lawfully transporting and storing firearms and ammunition in their private cars on the institution’s property if:

The car is somewhere it is allowed to be, and the firearm or ammunition is kept from view if the owner is in the car or is kept from view and is locked in a container or glove box while the owner is not in the vehicle.

Permit holders still cannot carry on school grounds, buildings, or property.

Violating this is a Class B misdemeanor.

Keeping in car is an extension of castle doctrine.
